Ryan A. Abrams, Esq. is the managing attorney of Abrams Law Firm, P.A. Having represented both public and private sector clients in many legal areas for over a decade, Mr. Abrams has developed expertise in property rights, code enforcement and land use and zoning law.
Mr. Abrams frequently represents individuals, businesses and investment groups to secure new real estate entitlements from cities and counties across Florida, with particular emphasis in South Florida (Monroe County through Palm Beach County) and Central Florida (Osceola County and Orange County). This includes rezonings, comprehensive plan amendments, special exceptions, variances, platting, subdividing, site plans, special use permits, and Live Local Act projects.
Mr. Abrams also represents clients in disputes with local governments over property rights and land use issues, whether in administrative proceedings or in court. Mr. Abrams is experienced in engaging with cities and counties to resolve code enforcement violations, and, if necessary, challenging them in court.
Advocating for development approvals from local government requires experience, local relationships, and, most importantly, a knowledge of laws affecting the use of real estate. Mr. Abrams understands what issues local government officials look for when scrutinizing a project. He understands the complicated interplay of local and state regulations and knows how to effectively move a development application through the review and approval process. Mr. Abrams develops strategies at the outset that take advantage of streamlined processes when they are available, recognizing that time is literally money with real estate development due to holding costs. Mr. Abrams has successfully secured government approvals for a range of real estate development projects, from restaurants and hotels to regular homeowners and multi-family apartment complexes.
Mr. Abrams is a well-rounded attorney with litigation and trial experience. He understands the courtroom and is comfortable advocating in court when necessary, having prosecuted and defended cases through summary judgment and trial, including jury trials. He has litigated complex cases related to construction law, property rights, boundary disputes, and constitutional rights in state and federal courts. He is willing to take on challenging cases when important issues are at stake, often starting with city or county administrative processes and leading to litigation in court when merited.
Mr. Abrams has appeared in the news for his work on land use and local government issues. He has been featured on WSVN/Channel 7, Sun-Sentinel, South Florida Business Journal, and the Orlando Business Journal.
Mr. Abrams is passionate about real estate development because it is what keeps cities’ vibrant and economies strong. In pursuit of this passion, Mr. Abrams earned a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning from Florida Atlantic University and went on to focus on land use and environmental law at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad School of Law. He is grateful to work daily on issues that affect real estate development, and to help his clients realize their vision even if it requires a change in local regulations.
Admitted to practice in Florida state courts and Federal District Court within the Southern District of Florida
When not working hard on behalf of his clients, Mr. Abrams enjoys spending time with his wife and three young sons. He enjoys outdoor activities, primarily fishing and hiking. Mr. Abrams serves as Vice-President of the Lake Worth Waterkeeper, a nonprofit group whose mission is to monitor and protect the critically important watershed known as the Lake Worth Lagoon.
